The RAC continues to recognize the importance of artistic expression in helping to address problems in society and to help bring people together with the aim of finding solutions.
For centuries, art has been an effective outlet for people to comment on social matters and to help create positive change. There is a long history of art being utilized by groups who were underrepresented, or unheard, to raise their voices about inequity and social ills.
Art is meant to be experienced communally. Art does not discriminate. Art bridges our understanding of others and is one of the few areas in society where people can come together to share experience no matter how different their opinions or backgrounds.
In difficult times, it is especially important that diverse voices are able to articulate ideas through creative outlets – be it literature, theater, sculpture, dance, music, painting etc. -- to help bring about social change and justice. We are committed to the ideals of inclusion and equality: in social actions, in access to art, and in the promotion of artists from all backgrounds.
The Ridgefield Arts Council opposes all racism, discrimination and censorship, especially that which restricts the personal expression of ideas.
