Wondering why you should contribute to the Ridgefield Arts Council?  Here are several good reasons:

Matching Grant from CCT & NEA!

Although we receive approximately $1,500 a year from the town for our budget, our needs are much higher, and we must fundraise without competing with those we seek to serve.  This year we received a matching funds grant in the amount of $9,175 from the Connecticut Council on Culture and Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts.  The funds can only be used if we match it dollar for dollar. 

What we do.

The three main events we produce each year, The All Artists Networking Event which encourages collaboration and cross pollination between all different disciplines of artists; The Behind the Scenes Award which celebrates arts volunteers of all kinds; and The Cultural Festival in Ballard Park, a showcase event and celebration of the arts for all types of artists cost several thousand dollars to produce.  In addition are the art forums, the work involved in maintaining this web site, and other events we take on as well as the goal of advertising to bring in audiences for events others are producing. 

To support ourselves we wisely use the town funding we are given, we apply for grants, we put on fundraisers and we send annual appeals to our friends and neighbors.  We do not have a membership structure.  As a municipal council, it is important to us to include everyone in the cultural community, from individual artist or actor to large non-profits and commercial businesses,  each sharing in the magic that makes Ridgefield the cultural destination it is.

Piggybanks?

One of our favorite fundraisers, sure to become one of yours as well, is our Dollar for the Arts.  Piggy banks, generously supplied by Art on Fire at cost, are painted by volunteers, many of them well known artists in town.  The piggy banks are distributed in various locations and moved around.  We ask patrons to drop in a dollar for the arts.
